Happy Birthday JJ!

Our first grandchild turned four today! (But we celebrated his birthday on Saturday.) He loves doughnuts, so his party was a "Cars" Doughnut Birthday Party!
His cake was a huge doughnut.
Being the social butterfly that he is, he wanted all his friends to come to help him celebrate.
And celebrate we did! First, the kids started out with cars stamping kits.
It was very serious business, and took alot of concentration.
Then they decorated mini-doughnuts with frosting and sprinkles.
 Again, very serious business!
 Next, came the presents...

 Then came the birthday cake...
...with the four crazy candles!
And J's special treat was a visit by Mr Doughnut Man himself!
Just some extra pics of the party day...

These two did not appreciate the rainy day, and looked longingly at the playground equipment and toys outside.
After the guests left, J was able to enjoy some of his new toys.
Little brother decided that this suitcase made a great "car."

His own personal race car
Since Uncle M had worked nights and was asleep while the birthday party was held,  he came by later to give J his gift: a remote control patrol car.
That was one well-packaged vehicle! It actually took three adults to get the car out of the box! Meanwhile, this guy was very patient.
But look at that delightful smile!
Good thing that mom and dad had not moved the furniture back into the living room yet! The boys had so much fun with that car!
We ended the day of celebration with a family meal at J's choice of restaurants: "Old Spaghetti Factory"
We even got to sit in the "train car" booths, J's special request.
Happy Birthday, big guy! We love you so much!

Tulips and more

We don't see many beautiful sunsets, so when it happens (like last week) we run for the camera!
And TWO rainbows in one week! Gorgeous colors from the hand of God.
Spring is in the air! A retired science teacher here in town started planting tulips in his front yard several years ago, and every year he tries to plant several hundred more...this year over 4,000 bulbs!
Many of his neighbors have also gotten into the "tulip spirit" and now...
...the whole block is having their own "Tulip Fest" each spring.
Did I mention that we are already seeing many signs of spring?
Beautiful blossoms, but also accompanied by sneezes and runny noses...
While walking around the neighborhood, we saw this lovely home; so "Californian" that I had to take a pic.
Last Sunday, we spent the afternoon with my cousin and her family at the ocean-side condo that they had rented for the week.
It was pretty cool that day, but we loved the walk on the beach and the soothing sounds of the ocean.

Did I mention that I love our new camera?
Here we are, hunkering down in a warmer spot so that we can watch the sunset over the waves.
Did I mention that we got a new camera and are enjoying playing with it?
OK, an action shot!
And the sun started to dip behind the clouds...
Going down...
The rain was rolling in on the horizon, so it blotted out the last rays of sunlight, but it was beautiful.

The orange Bird of Paradise
The last of the sunset, as we ascended the many stairs up from the beach.
Back to the condo, and then we finished the evening with pizza and frozen yogurt. Thanks Mark and Brenda for a lovely, relaxing day at the ocean!
