Well, today we survived our first earthquake since moving to SoCal! Up until this time, we've felt some slight "jolts" when the plates have shifted. But today was certainly different and could have been quite scarey. Both of us were at our places of work when the quake hit at 11:45AM. Since we both work in buildings that are close to very busy double-lane roads where many trucks travel, we both thought at first that it was just the rumble and shaking from a large semi going by. However, when the walls and the entire building began moving!...and seemed to keep on moving for a long time!...we realized that this was an earthquake! I guess that I was the calmest person in my department at work (probably because I didn't really know what was happening!) But there was no structural damage to any of our buildings and we are thankful to God for that. After hearing from all our family members that they were safe, we relaxed and started listening to and sharing stories with others. As one news commentator said this evening, "I think that people were more upset over the fact that their cell phones didn't work than over the shaking of the buildings!"
(What a strange world we live in!!!)

I'm reminded once again of these verses in Psalm 46
"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Be still and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation I will be honored throughout the world."
