On Sunday, immediately after the church service, we headed to LAX to catch our plane. Having packed our bags and wrapped up a very busy week, we were anxious for vacation. After a 5 hour journey across the country, we were met by our son Mark and wife Gina. After a night of sleep, we were ready to explore a bit of their fair city! This was the view of downtown from the top of the hospital paring ramp. (It is so refreshing to see so much verdant green.)
The employee entrance to the hospital where our kids work--their home away from home!
A partial view of their hospital. M&G gave us a tour of several parts of the building and also showed us where they work. It was very interesting and also fun to have a picture now in our minds of their workplace.
The chapel, located between the hospital and the medical school. (Gina actually attended a Christmas Eve service here last year, since she was on duty that evening.) The architecture is so elegant and the stained glass windows were so beautiful.
After the hospital tour, we headed for the Reynolda Village, located next to the Wake Forest University. The grounds were originally part an agriculture and animal husbandry project by Mrs Reynolds begun in the early 1900's. After she died, this large portion of land was donated to the University and is now a place of parks, gardens, a greenhouse, numerous unique shops and restaurants.
This was the lovely little alcove where we ate our picnic lunch.
One of the unique flowers: a pitcher plant
Beautiful roses
Beautiful family!
The vegetable and flower garden
A common sight (center) in many of the wooded areas here- Kudzu, a parasitic vine that grows and chokes out the trees.
A very interesting and unique flower that we saw in the greenhouse for tropical plants.
A quaint little log cabin at the end of the gardens. (A servant's cabin??) It was a beautiful park...more to come-
