Located close to W-S is a little known secret--a huge ranch that has been turned into a wildlife refuge for about 700 animals from all over the world. On Wednesday afternoon, after Gina finished class (yes, even while on vacation she had to attend a lecture at the hospital!), we headed for the Lazy 5 Ranch.
The entrance to the park was very rustic and felt a lot like a ranch.

Some of the cactus in front were in full bloom
The first animals to captivate our attention were the Lemurs. It was so fun to watch them bouncing playfully from branch to branch, and rock to rock.
lots of woolly Llamas in the nearby pasture...
...grateful for a treat!
The camels were not quite so happy with us for omitting them from the party list!
The peacocks--such beautiful birds--such an ugly squawk!
Next came the sheep and goats, such hungry little fellas! (and girls, I guess!)
Then, the kangaroos, praying for someone to have pity on them and give them something to eat...
And that was the end of the first part of our adventure. Next, we got into our car and headed into the game reserve to see the larger animals living in the wild. We were greeted at the gate by this welcoming party of Emus.
Mark was our brave and trusty driver (notice his friend looking longingly thru the window for a food handout).
This is a bit out of focus, but this Emu was so very persistent! She kept following our car, along with her friend Zebra. We had to close our windows to a tiny crack to prevent her beak from poking into the car!
And this persistent Reindeer also followed our car for a long time! I guess that they knew the source of food...
